For those who will be joining us for the carrier meetings, either in person or over the phone, here is a short recap of what has happened with the standards and what will be covered in the meetings.

Slings: the ballot to allow manufacturers to set their own upper limit (above 35lbs) has been accepted, as has the proposed test methods for sling carriers for multiples. At the moment the ballot is under review with ASTM editors and then will go through the CPSC review process. We will keep you updated as that process unfolds but for now we’re quite pleased with how much progress has been made! Thank you to all of our ASTM task group participants who worked on this endeavor.

This meeting will also address babywearing garments/kangaroo care devices, ad hoc labeling requirements, recent incident data, and the increased number of sling testing failure results we have been seeing.

Frame Carriers: this is the first frame carrier meeting in quite a while. If your company manufactures frame carriers, or you have contact with a company who does, please encourage them to attend. This committee definitely needs increased manufacturer representation.

Soft Carriers: review of recent ballots on flammability and leg opening assessment. Further discussion of occupant retention methods, and a review of recent incident data.
